Eugene Michael Kimidy, known as "Gene" passed away the day before his 44th birthday after a long battle with Lung Cancer.  â€‹He was born on November 29, 1930 in Newark, NJ and was the first-born son of Michael & Margaret (Cafferty) Kemedy (Later Kimidy, after legally changing their last name).

Gene entered the United States Navy on January 23, 1951 and served aboard the S.S. New Jersey for 3 years. On May 16, 1954, he was appointed to the rank of Machinst’s Mate Second Class by Lieutenant E. E. Flowers after showing “outstanding mechanical ability and leadership.”

During his 47 months of service, Gene received 5 medals:

National Defense Service Medal

United Nations Service Medal

China Service Medal.

He was honorably discharged on December 22, 1954.

After leaving the service, Gene married Nannette Burgmeyer on August 31, 1957. They had 4 daughters - Kathleen, Carole, Michele & Patricia - and lived in Wayne, NJ, where he worked as an Installation Foreman for the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company.

Gene died at the young age of 43, the day before his 44th birthday, after battling lung cancer. He was laid to rest in Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover, NJ - the same cemetery where Yogi Berra was recently interred.

His name lives on in two of his granddaughters, my wife, Meghan Gene; and Michele's daughter, Courtney Gene Resavage. He currently has 14 living descendants which includes 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
